Introduction to Adobe Photoshop
Location: Atrium, University of Glamorgan

A training course of Adobe Photoshop CS3 that builds knowledge from the ground up; covering everything from the layout of the window and how to get started, all the way to using more complex layer effects and filters – all with the aim of getting you comfortable using the software unaided.
Topics to cover
- The workspace
- Opening photographs
- Basic adjustments (Hue, Saturation, Dimensions, Levels etc.)
- The importance of layers
- The tools of the trade
- Applying filters
- Layer masking
- Layer blending
- Layer effects
- Stock images & external resources
Level of Expertise
The level of expertise for this course is absolute beginner, but also serves as a refresher course for intermediates.
The Tutor
Dan Hanley is a Multimedia Developer with University of Glamorgan's Centre for Excellence in Learning & Teaching
Dan has given workshops to Teachers of all ICT literacy levels on the use of multimedia in their teaching; using software such as Crazy Talk, Comic Life, Adobe Flash, Adobe Premiere Pro.
He has
written training guides on Adobe Flash, Adobe Premiere Pro, Windows Media Player, Audacity, Adobe Captivate, Crazy Talk 5 and Comic Life and has written Enhanced Learning Guides on the importance of Animation in teaching, using screen-capture for ICT and the importance of making Mathematics Interactive.
Dan has been a guest-speaker at a seminar about the importance of using Multimedia and Interactivity in lessons and has been a user of software for over 5 years - this includes Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Flash.
Dan has built and now maintains a website called Fintan Media, aiming to teach beginners of the Media industry programs such as Adobe Flash (including ActionScript), Adobe After Effects, Final Cut Pro and Photoshop.
